Gandhamardhan Hill Station & Parbat is located in the Indian state of Orissa’s Baragarh district. The medicinal herbs grown on the hill are well known. The Gandhamardan mountain ranges are a rich source of medicinal plant diversity. The Botanical Survey of India has identified 220 plant species with medicinal value. Locals, on the other hand, claim that there are over 500 species of medicinal plants in this area. The buffer zone’s flora is particularly vulnerable.
Many once-abundant medicinal plant species, such as Clerodendron indicum, Rauvolfia serpentina, and Plumbago zeylanica, have become scarce. A study found 2,700 angiosperms and 125 species of important medicinal plants among 220 medicinal quasi-medicinal and economically important plants. On both sides of Gandhamardan, there are two ayurvedic colleges and hospitals, one in Bargarh district and the other in Balangir.
This hill was once famous for its Buddhist culture, and some Buddhist ruins can still be found here. In the Tretaya Yug (the Silver Age), Lord Hanuman carried this hill on his shoulders from the Himalayas to save the life of Lakshman (Lord Rama’s brother). Trekking in Gandhamardan Hill is a truly enriching experience because the entire valley is filled with gurgling streams and beautiful scenery. The scenic beauty of the location is worth noting because it is surrounded by lush forests and beautiful herbal plants and flowers. It is time to trek in the Gandhamardan Hills to experience the true joy of nature and bring back memories to cherish for a lifetime.
