Khordha is situated at a distance of 28 km from Bhubaneswar. Khordha has historical importance since it was the center of Bhoi dynasty in the 1st Century AD. It was the headquarters of the Pike Rebellion between the years 1817 and 1818. The District Khordha district came into being on 1 April 1993 when it was carved out of the earlier Puri district. Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh were split into tree districts. The location of the remains of the ancient fort is now a center for Khordha handloom weaving and also its remains are found in this currently.
Total area of the Khordha district is 2813 square kilometers. The census records from 2011 indicate that the population of this District is totally 22,51,673. Total Male population of Khordha district is 11,67,137 in contrast to Female population of 10,84,536. The Khurda district has 1546 villages, two subdivisions 10 blocks 4 municipalities, 1. N.A.C., eight Assembly constituencies and twenty five police stations in Khorda district.
