Amavasya Dates 2025
Date, Time, Rituals and Significance

The New Moon day, or Amavasya, is the most important in Hinduism. This day is dedicated exclusively to offering respect to one’s ancestors or forefathers. Amavasya occurs every month and can be identified using the Daily Hindu Panchang.

As far as performing any auspicious ritual such as Griha Pravesh, Mundan, Marriage and Engagements, Amavasya day is thought to be inauspicious. Amavasya days are considered auspicious days for performing religious ceremonies such as bathing in the holy Ganga, performing hawan, feeding Brahmins, performing charitable services, and performing Tarpan, Puja, or Pind Daan to offer respect to one’s ancestors.

Some of the major holidays associated with Amavasya are Mauni Amavasya, Somvati Amavasya, Shanichari Amavasya, Kartik Amavasya, Mahalaya Amavasya or Sarva Pitri Amavasya, Hariyali Amavasya, and Vat Amavasya.

Since this day is focused on the Moon, and the Moon is going to be in its waning phase, and is considered ominous for people with an ill-placed Moon in their natal birth chart, Amavasya is not considered a powerful day astrologically. Therefore, we will share remedies for you so you can lessen some of the negative energy effects from the Moon.
