Jharsuguda is among the mineral-rich districts of Odisha and a key industrial Township in India. Date of Formation: 1st January 1994 The time it was a part of Sambalpur District—the merger of ex-formed it – Jamindars of Rampur Kolabira Padampur Kudabaga.

The city, as per the classification of Köppen and Geiger, falls into the Aw climate category. The mean temperature of the site is around 26.5 °C. Annual average rainfall stands at 1480 mm.
