The Peacock Valley is situated in Talapada, a short distance from the Naraj Bridge, 15 kilometers from Cuttack. The owner of the peacocks feeds them twice a day, in the morning and at night. Nearby villagers often visit to see the peacocks.
Cards-alationship-the-same. In the wake of the flicker from the 1999 super cyclone that struck Odisha, peacocks rested in the jungle near the Naraj Firing Range in Cuttack. It was there that Panu Behera, a Home Guard of Odisha Police, happened upon the peacocks and decided to give them protection. He adopted three peacocks, and within two years, there were five with him. The population of peacocks continued to grow and today is referred to as the Valley of Peacocks.
Peacock Valley, a fairly recent addition to the tourism map, is located not far from Naraj, about a distance of 20 km from Cuttack City. There are more than 100 peacocks and peahens around this region. Established by Pannu Behera-a.k.a. the Peacock Man of Odisha-there are only 2 spots for viewing peacocks: 5 AM-7 AM or 3 PM-5 PM. Entry is free.
Located on the Cuttack-Athagarh road, one of the main attractions at Peacock Valley in Naraj is the extraordinary view of the Mahanadi River, snaking through the plains, particularly from the higher spots in the Peacock Valley.
This was created by the ‘peacock man’ of Odisha, Pannu Behera, and after his demise, his grandson, Kanhucharan, has carried on with the good work. Close to the Naraj Dam, one may visit the dam after seeing the birds. It is sure to brighten one’s day. The government should care for the place and bring it to the tourists’ notice.

This is indeed a strive toward conservation that a native resident has taken up as a life’s mission out of some love for gentle beings. More trees can be planted in that area and an immediate removal of the killer shooting range should be completed. The noise that shooting produces must be an extremely disturbing distraction for the birds there.
