Sakhigopal temple is located 20 km from Puri, en route to Bhubaneswar. The life-size image of Krishna is known as Sakhigopal. The temple is formally known as Satyabadi Gopinath. Historical references state that Gopal is an incarnation of Lord Krishna. Gopal comes from Brundaban to adduce witnesses in a dispute between two Brahmins and stays back inside the beautiful Bakul and Chhuriana grove in Sakhigopal.
Major festivals of this temple include Anla Nabami, Dolapurnima, Chandan Yatra, and Kartika Purnima. It is established that UTkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das established a school here, out of which arose the spirit of the freedom movement of India and the past deeds of youth then.
