The abandoned Suka Temple has not been for a long time in use and is located in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. This temple is dedicated to the saptaratha, with the appearance of female counterparts of the dikpalas in the upara jangha. It was constructed during the matured phase of the temple-building tradition of Odisha.
The Suka Temple is just behind Jagannath Ballav Matha on the southern side of Bindusagar Pond. The main idol is Goddess Parvati. Its size and artistry are similar to those of Ananta Basudev and Yameswar, and it is typically styled after the Saptaratha temples.
The temple’s art and architecture provide ample evidence to indicate that it belonged to the Ganga period in the 13th century AD. This temple had been built, according to historical references, during the time of King Narasimha Dev I. The likenesses of Brihaspati and Shukra are bearded figures in the Navagraha slab. Suka Sari Deula is one of the famous temples in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Suka temple is located on Sankarananda Street, Uttaradaraja Badu Sahi, Old Town, Bhubaneswar. The Sukasari Mandir is on the southern embankment of the Bindusagar tank, some 50 meters away. It faces the west.
This temple is not in use, but sculptural embellishments on the exterior walls quantum that the temple was originally dedicated to Lord Siva. It is so architecturally and sculpturally sound but is abandoned and not in use. The temple measures 1.80 m below the present ground level.
