Bhadraba month, which occurs between August and September, is recognized for numerous festivals that are important in Hinduism.
Ganesh Chaturthi is observed for 10 days, where devotees worship Lord Ganesh, the God of knowledge, wisdom, and prosperity, and immerse his idols in bodies of water at the end of the festival. It commences on the fourth day (chaturthi) of Bhadraba and is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh.
Radhashtami is celebrated on the eighth day of the month of Bhadraba. It is an auspicious day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Goddess Radha, who is Lord Krishna’s consort. Radhashtami occurs about 15 days after Krishna Janmashtami.
Ananta Chaturdashi is marked with the Bhadraba Shukla Chaturdashi, which is the fourteenth day of the month. A festival dedicated to Lord Vishnu. According to the Agni Purana, the Ananta (divine serpent Shesha) embodiment of Lord Vishnu is worshipped on that day to absolve the devotees of all sins. This festival also marks the last day of the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festivities.
Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated on the last day of the Bhadraba month. Other names include Bhadraba Sankranti and Kanya Sankranti. The day ceremonially celebrates the birth of Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect and son of Lord Brahma. Vishwakarma is seen as a creator of the world. A well-known piece of folklore related to Lord Vishwakarma is that he constructed the famous Jagannath Temple idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra.
