Odia Calendar Phalguna (FEBRUARY-MARCH) 2025
Phalguna is the eighth month of the Hindu sunset calendar from February to March by some people of both southern and northern India. The importance of this month commences with the end of Magha Purnima; it suggests the beginning of Phalguna.
Dola Purnima falls on the full moon day or the fifteenth day of Phalguna. This festival celebrates the divine couple, Goddess Radha and Lord Krishna. It is celebrated as the commencement of the spring season with great pomp and zeal by the Odias.
The Dola Yatra is taken out on Dola Purnima where Lord Jagannath, along with his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, is taken on a procession to a place known as Dola Vedi. The idols are mounted on a richly decorated palanquin.
Apart from the procession, the Dola Dance is performed enthusiastically by devotees clad in bright traditional garb. It is by nature a festival based on love, harmony, and peace celebrated by the residents of Puri. During this festival, in Odisha’s villages, Lord Krishna’s deity is taken in a palanquin from house to house, in a procession of drummers, singers, and musicians.
Each household presents Bhoga as an offering to Lord Krishna with great devotion. The people following the procession throw dry-colored powders, known as Abira, in the spirit of celebration.
In the following, the Odia calendar recording the months of February-March is supplied, which shows the timings of sunrise and sunset, the dates of Purima and Amavasya, as well as essential marriage dates, thread ceremony dates, and other festival dates.
